About These Photos
The images in this gallery cover the main areas visitors encounter at Château de Chambord: the north façade (the principal approach from the car parks), the south façade and canal (the view Louis XIV intended as his monument), the formal gardens (restored and reopened in 2017), the double-helix staircase at the centre of the keep, and interior rooms from the royal apartments.
The rooftop terrace is best photographed in the late afternoon, when the light falls from the south-west and the stonework turns from white to pale gold. The staircase is best photographed from the upper landings, looking down the hollow central column — the light from below creates a perspective effect that photographs rarely capture fully.
